During my trip to New York this week I went to the Helmsley palace. Today it is called the New York Palace.

More than 18 years ago, I celebrated my honeymoon at this very place. It seemed surreal standing in the lobby, remembering. We could know so little truly about the future; so little we truly knew about each other.

I am thankful, so thankful, that I have been able to share all of these years with this woman whom I love. How tragic it would have been to have abandoned the relationship. The memories from all of these shared experiences wrap around my heart in layer upon layer. I cannot imagine what my life would be like without her.

Since I cannot know the future, it is doubly imperative that I do right, now, in the present tense. If I continue to do right, now, the future will take care of itself.

I am reminded of my poem: “I Think My Now Is Dying.”
