I find it fascinating that Descartes, Pascal, and Leibniz all criticized what they perceived to be the laziness of Aristotle’s empirical epistemology. They knew that one could not grasp fundamental principles from a simple understanding of nature. They sensed the epistemic difficulties associated with trying to know what we know or even that we know at all.

The philosopher asks,”How can I know?” The theologian asks,”How can I be known?”
