I find reading to my children is more effective if I allow them to read over my shoulder.
At periodic times I stop and they have to say the next word.
If they don’t say the next word, I make up a word.
It is typically wrong.
But it is also educational, in that it teaches them to pay careful attention.
It requires them to connect the sounds of my voice with the precise images on the page.
